90 days: A complete IoT platform, built end-to-end

PuriFi Labs is a product company operating at the intersection of hardware, software, and health. Their system goes beyond monitoring indoor air quality — it actively controls it in real time in residences, businesses, and even ships worldwide.

That capability depends on a commercial-grade IoT platform designed to ingest high-frequency sensor data, execute automated control logic, interface directly with physical infrastructure, and support multiple user roles.

Modularis designed and delivered the complete platform in 90 days:

  • A scalable cloud backend and data pipeline
  • A secure, extensible API
  • Two web applications and a desktop application
  • Eight mobile applications for installers, dealers, administrators, and end users
  • A hardware interface unifying sensors, smart hubs, and HVAC systems into a single control plane

This was not a throwaway MVP. The platform was designed to expand modularly, allowing new features, user experiences, and data layers to be added without re-architecting the core.

That architectural discipline enabled everything to follow.

Real-time control that proves performance

PuriFi’s differentiation is closed-loop control. The platform ingests particulate data from in-room sensors every 90 seconds. When air quality deviates from user-defined thresholds, the system automatically signals the Smart Hub and activates the PuriFi Generator installed in the HVAC system until target conditions are restored.

This detect → decide → respond → verify loop is fully automated and software-driven. The platform manages system state, coordinates active and standby modes, and maintains consistent behavior across residential and commercial environments.

Performance is measurable in real time. Users can see particulate levels decline as the system responds. The software does not simply report conditions — it enforces outcomes.

Architecturally, the platform functions as the control plane for a distributed physical system, coordinating sensors, smart hubs, generators, and HVAC infrastructure across mobile, web, and connected assistant interfaces.

From friction to adoption in under 10 minutes

Adoption was a problem for PurifiLabs.

“Our onboarding was a mess. We had all these manual processes that were overly complicated and cumbersome. Dealers wanted no part of it.”

Installation and configuration required manual steps, pre-configuration, and outdated tooling. Dealers avoided promoting the product because deployment was slow and inconsistent.

Modularis reframed installation as a software problem. Guided, self-service workflows now allow installers to register devices, configure systems, and bring installations online in under 10 minutes, removing friction at the point of adoption.

Built to scale without rewrites

Modularis architected the system to evolve. It’s a modular, multi-tenant IoT platform that allows new functionality to be added as discrete modules rather than forcing re-architecture of the core. New data sources, user roles, and application surfaces could be introduced without breaking existing workflows.

This approach enabled PuriFi Labs to support multilingual, white-label deployments and expand across residential and commercial use cases without fragmenting the platform or duplicating code.

As the business grew, the software kept pace. Not through rewrites, but through deliberate architectural extensibility.

5+ years of expansion and still growing

The platform Modularis launched in 90 days is still in use – and still expanding – more than five years later.

That longevity is the result of deliberate roadmap planning and a partnership focused on end-state outcomes. Modularis worked with PuriFi Labs to define long-term goals, sequence initiatives logically, and invest in the right capabilities at the right time.

“Modularis didn’t just build our platform… they helped shape the vision of what it could become. Because the architecture is solid and expandable, we can keep growing without starting over.”

New modules, data layers, and user experiences have been added to the existing foundation rather than forcing platform resets. The architecture absorbed growth instead of resisting it.

This is the difference between hiring a development vendor and partnering with a product-focused software team – a system that continues to deliver value long after launch.

"Modularis has been a terrific strategic partner for us.They have the leadership, experience, discipline, and technology we needed to build and grow our global IoT platform."
