Product Launch #56

Turning a high-cost legacy platform into a scalable, profitable engine

Stabilizing a platform that required two full-time people just to keep online

When Neul Capital acquired LiveEdit, the product was outdated… and fragile.

The website builder and hosting platform were consuming two full-time employees just to keep the lights on. Every outage triggered waves of support calls, which in turn triggered rework, escalations, and lost customer trust. They were feeling the pain: no spare capacity for growth, no predictability in releases, and no clear path to new revenue.

“What stood out immediately was Modularis’s ability to stabilize what we already had instead of pushing us toward a risky rebuild. They dug into the old system, fixed the underlying issues, and showed us the product was stronger than we realized.”

Instead of “more developers,” LiveEdit needed architecture discipline, a clear mental model of the system, and a systematic approach to fixing the root causes of the instability.

Turning firefighting into a stable, scalable foundation

Modularis stepped in as the embedded architecture partner (not a ticket-driven vendor) to rebuild platform stability without rewriting the product from scratch.

Key moves:

  1. Stabilized the hosting and platform infrastructure so it no longer required constant hands-on attention
  2. Refactored fragile areas of the codebase, addressing the core issues that created most support calls
  3. Cleaned up stale, expensive data, which had bloated cloud usage and slowed the platform
  4. Established a predictable R&D cadence, shipping ~3 improvements per week without destabilizing the system

LiveEdit’s platform went from a daily maintenance burden to a stable foundation on which the business could actually build.

Unlocking net-new ARR with a self-service subscription engine

LiveEdit had demand, with no way to convert it. Prospects couldn’t sign up without human involvement, meaning acquisition simply didn’t scale. Modularis built the self-service subscription funnel… clean, friction-free, and reliable.

Outcome: $60K in new ARR, created by a revenue path the company simply didn’t have before. This is a structural unlock that changed the economics of the business.

“Modularis doesn’t just ship features. They look at why you need something, how it affects the rest of the system, and build it in a way that leaves doors open for future improvements. That mindset made the new revenue engine possible.”

Reducing support calls by 60% by fixing root causes, not symptoms

Most of LiveEdit’s support volume came from the same underlying problems:
  • Race conditions (a high-pain defect)
  • Inconsistent infrastructure behavior
  • Data integrity issues
  • UX pathways that created user errors instead of preventing them
Modularis traced the failures to their architectural roots and corrected them systemically. The support team went from reactive firefighting to true customer support… and the platform stopped generating avoidable tickets.

Eliminating the need for two full-time operators

Before Modularis, LiveEdit used two FTEs to babysit the platform. After stabilization, the monitoring requirements shrank, system failures dropped, and emergency escalation basically disappeared. In short, a platform that once required two operators now runs with minimal oversight, freeing capital, time, and leadership attention.

A healthier product, healthier economics, and a scalable path forward

LiveEdit now has:

  • A stable product to market and upsell
  • Dramatically lower cloud costs
  • Higher customer retention
  • Predictable release on schedule
  • A working revenue engine

And, most importantly, a foundation that won’t collapse when new features are introduced. This is the Modularis model: fix the fundamentals, stabilize the architecture, create conditions where growth is actually possible.

“Modularis didn’t just steady the platform… they rebuilt our confidence in what the product could become. We’re no longer fighting fires. We’re planning the future.
