Product Launch #57

Transforming aging niche software into a secure, integration-rich platform

Transforming a healthcare-only fax tool into a modern platform

For nearly 20 years, OTGT’s flagship product lived inside a narrow but important category: healthcare fax transmission for secure clinical workflows. It worked, but the market in 2024 was shifting toward:

  • Enterprise document management
  • Secure, auditable information exchange
  • Automated document workflows
  • HIPAA-ready, cloud-based interoperability
  • FHIR/HL7-friendly integrations with EMRs
  • cross-industry use cases in legal, finance, insurance, and government

The product was not ready to break into those markets. Modularis helped OTGT evolve the product into the One Touch Platform, a secure, API-first, integration-friendly workflow engine built for regulated industries that don’t tolerate risk, downtime, or data inconsistency.

Far beyond modernization, together we turned a niche fax tool into a full enterprise platform.

Modernizing the product with EMR-friendly APIs and flexible integrations

The original OTGT product wasn’t designed for the world of integrations and interoperability. The new One Touch Platform needed to hit all of those bullet points and beyond to compete and grow. Modularis re-engineered the OTGT architecture to support modern, flexible APIs and integrate with EMRs, replacing a series of one-off connectors. Now the product can:

  • Plug into EMRs
  • Automate document intake
  • Route information based on rules
  • Support cross-industry workflows
  • Integrate with third-party systems smoothly

The shift from “fax-only” to integration-first document management is what now positions One Touch as a long-term category-ready software product.

Upgrading and modernizing a 20-year-old UI

The biggest barrier to new revenue wasn’t actually stability… it was the “Windows 95”-esque experience (their words, not ours). A subpar experience simply couldn’t compete in markets where clinicians are buried in EMR screens, legal teams demand clarity and speed, workflows must be airtight and seamless, and buyers expect a polished, intuitive UX. The new One Touch UI (code name Artemis) requirements included:

  • Reduce user cognitive load
  • Minimize training requirements
  • Cut down support request volume
  • Increase trust and retention
  • Modernize enough for sales and marketing

OTGT brought in a specialist UI/UX designer. Modularis made sure every interaction in the new experience was supported by clean, maintainable architecture.

A Modularis leader inside the business

A Modularis team member acted as OTGT’s unofficial VP of Operations: part strategist, part translator, part architect. A trusted operator who can own the technical picture and surface decisions in business language. OTGT can focus on growth, segmentation, and go-to-market, knowing that R&D decisions are grounded in sound technical judgment rather than ad-hoc fixes.

“Oli [of Modularis] is the best there is. He’s not only a brilliant guy, but he understands things big picture as well as granular. He’s patient, and he’s just a great partner.”

Shared infrastructure & strategy across the parent company

Justin doesn’t just run OTGT; he’s also a Managing Director at Neul Capital. From the holding-company vantage point, Modularis isn’t a single-asset vendor. They’re part of a common R&D and infrastructure layer that can be applied across multiple portfolio companies.

At the parent company level, Modularis supports due diligence, feature exploration, and platform decisions across different businesses. That continuity matters. Neul doesn’t have to rediscover architecture lessons or rebuild tooling from scratch for each company. Modularis gives them a repeatable way to think about platform evolution, not just one-off projects.

Stabilizing legacy infrastructure so it can support new markets

Before the One Touch modernization, the platform was stable… but rigid, difficult to change, and riddled with tech debt. Modularis strengthened the foundation by:

  • Cleaning up aging code paths
  • Improving data integrity
  • Eliminating risky legacy patterns
  • Resolving issues that slow development
  • Ensuring the system could scale under new market demands

This stability now makes the re-launched One Touch Platform credible in healthcare, legal, government, finance, insurance, and any other workflow-intensive, compliance-sensitive environment.

“Modularis made sure our software would keep creating value for years. Knowing the architecture is solid means I can focus on the business, not the backend.”
